UAE-headquartered offshore drilling contractor Shelf Drilling has won a long-term deal for one of its jack-up rigs for operations offshore India.
Shelf Drilling revealed on Monday that it had received a three-year contract for the Trident II jack-up rig from Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) for operations in Mumbai High, offshore India.
While no financial details were disclosed at this point, the UAE-based player did explain that the rig was expected to continue operations in direct continuation of its current contract following an out-of-service period in preparation for the new three-year award.
Based on Shelf Drilling’s fleet status report from November 2022, the rig’s current contract with ONGC, which was awarded in October 2019, started in March 2020 and is set to end in March this year.
The Trident II is a 300-foot jack-up drilling rig of MLT 84-SC design. It was built in 1977 and upgraded in 1985. The rig can accommodate up to 130 people.
The latest contract comes only days after the UAE-based player secured a contract extension with Chevron’s subsidiary in Angola.
