US engineering company KBR has been selected by US green hydrogen producer Avina Clean Hydrogen to provide its K-GreeN® technology for Avina’s green ammonia project in the US.
Under the terms of the contract, KBR is expected to provide the process technology license and engineering design for the project to produce 2,200 metric tonnes per day of green ammonia.
According to KBR, its design for Avina encompasses a fully integrated green ammonia solution, from electrolysis to ammonia synthesis.

To note, Avina’s green ammonia plant is expected to have a total capacity of 700,000 metric tonnes per annum and, according to Avina, will be powered with 100% renewable power. The first of the two phases is expected to become operational in 2025.
Earlier this year, KBR secured a contract to provide its technology for a green ammonia project HyEx in Chile. This project aims to demonstrate the operation stability of the production of green ammonia using renewable energy from photovoltaic power plants.
