The LHD tidal current energy demonstration project, being developed near Xiushan island in China’s Zhejiang Province, has exceeded 60 months of continuous operation.

ed by Chinese company LHD New Energy Corporation , the project has been under development since 2016, with the implementation planned to be executed in two phases.

In 2016 and 2018, several turbines modules have been installed reaching an installed capacity of 1.7MW in one platform.

One innovative aspect of the project is the modular design of the bottom-standing platform which facilitates installation and maintenance, with the equipment being accessible from the surface.

Since 2018, the construction of the second phase of the project has begun, that was followed by LHD’s new megawatt scale tidal energy turbine called ‘Endeavor’ presented in 2022.

During testing operation, the new turbine’s maximum generating capacity has exceeded 1MW, while the continuous operation time of the LHD tidal current energy demonstration project has gone over 60 months until December 2022, according to the newest IEA-OES report on the global developments in tidal energy sector .
