Canada’s oil and gas player Trillion Energy has brought online the fifth well in its 2022 – 2023 drilling campaign on a natural gas field in the Black Sea off Türkiye.

After the Uranus rig, which was hired in May 2022, spud the Bayhanli-2 well on 5 April 2023 at the East Ayazli Tripod on the SASB gas field , Trillion Energy announced the preliminary gas indications from the well in May 2023.

In an update on Thursday, 1 June 2023, the Canadian player revealed the flow test results for the Bayhanli-2 natural gas well. The flow test results for the previous four wells – South Akçakoca-2 , Akçakoca-3 , West Akçakoca-1 , and Guluc-2 – were disclosed in early and late November 2022 for the first two wells and in mid and late March for the third and fourth ones.

According to Trillion, eight intervals of gas pay with a true thickness of about 21 metres were perforated and tested in Bayhanli-2 and now are producing gas for the sales pipeline. The company highlights that eight intervals within the E, D, C, A, and AA gas sand reservoirs produced at a combined rate of 11.9 MMcf/d for the final flow test. This well’s initial production flow rates are expected to be between 8 and 9MMcf/d.

Arthur Halleran , CEO of Trillion, commented: “Bayhanli-2 is our fifth well operation successfully drilled and producing gas at SASB. With multiple zones perforated, we expect a good producer which will also help us evaluate how to produce gas at maximum rates.”

Furthermore, the Uranus rig will now be moved to the Akkaya tripod to start drilling the next well, Alapli-2 , which is the sixth well in this drilling campaign. The Canadian firm underscores that the Alapli-2 well is a twin of a previously discovered gas pool that has never been put into production.

This well will not be the last one for Trillion, as the firm already confirmed its intention to add three sidetrack wells to the development programme for the SASB field , increasing the total number of wells for this Black Sea drilling campaign from 17 to 20.
