Canada’s oil and gas player Trillion Energy has discovered “abundant gas pay” in the sixth well in its multi-well drilling campaign on a natural gas field in the Black Sea off Türkiye.

Trillion Energy started drilling the Alapli-2 well – the sixth one in its multi-well drilling programme at the SASB gas field – in June 2023 with the Uranus jack-up rig, which was hired in May 2022 for this drilling campaign.

While disclosing the preliminary gas indications from this well, the company confirmed that the well reached 3,258 metres total measured depth (TMD) on 16 July 2023 and discovered “abundant gas pay.”

The Canadian player’s analysis of the gas measurements in the mud logging results for the Alapli-2 well suggests over 40 metres of potential natural gas pay within 6 separate sands in the Akçakoca Member (SASB production zone).

Furthermore, the logging while drilling data is also being evaluated and the 7” production casing will be run in and cemented. The company confirms that the initial perforation intervals are currently being selected to bring the well into production.

Moreover, the completion and flow testing will occur once the well is perforated, with results expected to be announced next week. The offset Alapli-1 well-tested 7.1 MMcf/d from a combined three zones with a measured thickness of 15 metres.

Arthur Halleran , CEO of Trillion, commented: “The Alapli-2 well gives Trillion Energy 6 wells for 6 activities now at SASB. Trillion does not need any more funding for this SASB project. The success of this technically challenging project has provided the spotlight on Trillion to attract new exciting additional projects, which will be revealed over the next few weeks.”

The company disclosed the flow test results for the Bayhanli-2 well at the SASB natural gas field in June 2023 while the flow test results for the previous four wells – South Akçakoca-2 , Akçakoca-3 , West Akçakoca-1 , and Guluc-2 – were disclosed in early and late November 2022 for the first two wells and in mid and late March for the third and fourth ones.

Trillion plans to add three sidetrack wells to the development programme for the SASB field , increasing the total number of wells for this Black Sea drilling campaign from 17 to 20.
