SJVN Green Energy (SGEL), part of India’s state-owned power company SJVN, has submitted a proposal to the Goa state government for the development of four floating solar power plants. With an estimated investment of around INR 1300 Crore (approximately $156.4 million), this project aims to produce 190 MW of electricity.
The planned locations for these solar installations are the Selaulim, Amthanem, Anjunem, and Chapoli dams.
In 2021, the state government called for expressions of interest (EOIs) to set up solar power plants connected to the grid on four dams. These projects are to be managed under a design, build, finance, and operate (DBFO) model.
Additionally, SJVN is moving forward with a small-scale, membrane-based floating solar project expected to produce between 1 and 2 MW of power, with the Department of New and Renewable Energy.
For this pilot project, two locations have been chosen, near the breakwater of the Mormugao Port Authority’s port and in a section of the Mandovi River.
Speaking about SJVN, the company signed a memorandum of understanding with Ocean Sun to develop a floating solar project in India of about 2 MW in November of 2023.
