The performance tests confirming the requirements of LNG production of above 3.4 million tons per year (mtpa) at Eni’s Coral Sul floating LNG (FLNG) facility offshore Mozambique have been finalized.
French engineering company Technip Energies, a leader of the TJS Consortium which also includes JGC Corporation and Samsung Heavy Industries, announced via social media on January 25 that the Coral Sul FLNG facility was handed over to Eni and its partners.
Following the delivery and commissioning of the FLNG during 2023, the performance tests have been conducted to confirm the requirements of LNG production of above 3.4 mtpa.
According to Technip Energies, this further contributes to Eni’s ambition in Area 4 gas development.

Coral Sul FLNG has a gas liquefaction capacity of 3.4 mtpa and will put in production 450 billion cubic meters of gas from the giant Coral reservoir, located in the Rovuma Basin Area 4 offshore Mozambique. It is 432 meters long and 66 meters wide, weighs around 220,000 tons and can accommodate up to 350 people.
The project was sanctioned in 2017. FLNG fabrication and construction activities started in September 2018 when the first steel for the hull was cut, and were completed in 38 months as planned with the sailaway from South Korea to Mozambique in November 2021. The vessel arrived there in early January 2022 .
Mooring and connection to six underwater production wells were finalized in March and May 2022, respectively, and the introduction of hydrocarbons came in June 2022 after the conclusion of offshore commissioning activities.
The first shipment of LNG produced from the Coral gas field departed from the Coral Sul FLNG facility in November 2022.
