Finnish shipping company Langh Ship has celebrated a keel laying ceremony for its first of three new 1,200 TEU container vessels.
The keel for the newbuilding no. H1038 was laid at PaxOcean shipyard in Zhoushan, China.
The 17,500 dwt newbuild measures 150 meters in length, 27 meters in width, and has a draft of 8.75 meters. It is equipped with a two-stroke, slow-speed main engine for optimal fuel efficiency, complemented by a hybrid scrubber.
“Our commitment to innovation is further underscored by its readiness for integration with Langh Tech’s carbon capture system and LanghBW Systems for ballast water management,” PaxOcean said on social media.
The shipbuilder added that the main engine can operate on biofuel as soon as it becomes available on a larger scale.
What is more, the vessel will be prepared for shore power connection and a hybrid solution including batteries.
It is optimized for carrying 45ft containers both in the holds and on deck, offering versatility and efficiency in cargo handling. It will be built to Finnish/Swedish ICE Class 1A standards.
Back in 2022, Langh Ship ordered the three feeder vessels from the Chinese shipbuilder. The units are intended for container traffic in Europe.
The newbuild trio will be named Ingrid, Lene and Martta, data provided by VesselsValue shows. The Federmax ships are scheduled for delivery in August 2024, November 2024 and February 2025, respectively.
Each unit has a market value of about $20 million, according to VesselsValue.
Last week, Langh Ship also celebrated the naming ceremony for the second of three new environmentally friendly 7,800 dwt multipurpose ships. The vessel was named Olivia during the ceremony that took place at Wuhu Shipyard in Ningbo, China, on January 22.
Lovisa, the first multipurpose vessel from the batch was delivered to its owner in November 2023. The third 7,800 dwt sister vessel, Sofia, is slated for delivery next month.
