François Cornet d’Elzius, Ambassador of Belgium to Cairo, and Waleid Gamal El Dien, Chairman of the General Authority of the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE) have met to discuss new aspects of cooperation, including green fuel projects.

On February 7, SCZONE said it received d’Elzius within the framework of enhancing the cooperation. The visit coincided with SCZONE’s promotional efforts which target several destinations, including the European continent, to introduce and attract new investments in the targeted sectors.

On this occasion, El Dien stated that SCZONE exerted efforts to localize the green fuel industry in cooperation with major international partners from various parts of the world, not only through manufacturing but also through ship bunkering and exporting.

He added that SCZONE will conduct a promotional tour to Belgium to discuss the available investment opportunities in the targeted sectors, especially the green fuel projects and its feeding industries.

François Cornet d’Elzius commented: “I’m glad with this visit to SCZONE, as there is a need to support cooperation between the ports of SCZONE and the Belgian port of Antwerp. SCZONE enjoys serious investment opportunities and has a promising future.

“ SCZONE capabilities are announcing a new phase of cooperation and creating good opportunities during the next phase. We are looking forward to opening new horizons for investments and cooperation between the two sides. SCZONE is invited to participate in the Belgian companies’ exhibition which will be organized by the embassy soon.”

When it comes to green fuel cooperation with European partners, it is worth noting SCZONE’s recent $1.1 billion bunkering deal with Norwegian renewable energy solutions provider Scatec as well as a cooperation protocol with a Dutch delegation of officials of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Egypt, representatives of Rotterdam City and officials of the consortium led by the Egyptian Dutch Company for Business Development of Companies.
