Deltamarin and ECOLOG present LNG dual-fuel LCO2 carrier design

Marine engineering company Deltamarin and Greek mid-stream carbon capture, utilization and sequestration (CCUS) service provider ECOLOG have unveiled a liquified CO2 (LCO2) carrier design with LNG dual-fuel propulsion.

The two companies have collaborated on LCO2 carrier design for the purpose of tendering at shipyards worldwide.

As explained, the new design is intra-EU, short range, low-pressure, shallow draft.

Deltamarin said that during the initial design, various solutions had been studied to optimize the vessel for LCO2 transportation, including different configurations of the cargo containment and handling system, considering the effect of the wide variety of CO2 compositions.

As a result, the new design integrates LNG dual-fuel propulsion, shore power, and wind assistance to help minimize the environmental footprint.

ECOLOG plans to build and own CO2 terminals and a carrier fleet to service the emerging CCUS sector, connecting hard-to-abate emitters with cost-competitive sequestration sites and carbon utilization facilities.

Recently, the Greek company was awarded an industry-first ISM Document of Compliance for the operation of liquified CO2 carriers on behalf of the Bermuda flag administration.

The ISM Document of Compliance was issued by classification society the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS).
