Norway-based ocean services provider DeepOcean has been appointed to perform a 120-day recycling campaign on the UK continental shelf (UKCS) for an international operator.
The campaign is divided into five sub-campaigns, each addressing specific tasks crucial for the decommissioning process, including the recovery of concrete mattresses, spools, flexibles, flowlines, jumpers, suction anchor, multiple structures and final debris clearance with the addition of a subsea rock installation campaign to conduct final seabed remediation.
DeepOcean’s Aberdeen office will oversee project management and engineering operations, with offshore activities scheduled for this year.
Edda Freya will be used for the work with its 2,300 m2 deck space and 400Te AHC crane and two moonpool-launched 220 HP Kysdesign work-class remotely operated vehicles (WROVs), as well as Normand Jarstein .
Upon recovery, all items will be transported and offloaded onshore for appropriate reuse, recycling, or disposal. Through collaboration with a selected waste management contractor, DeepOcean will seek reuse options for all concrete mattresses.

DeepOcean in April announced that it had reduced its own CO2 emissions intensity by 18% since 2020, staying on track to reach its target of 45% reduction in CO2 emissions by 2030.
The company shortly after reported that it had performed subsea dredging operations remotely from shore for the first time ever, carried out for Norwegian oil and gas player Aker BP.
