Sirius Shipping seals charter deal with Preem for two methanol-ready tankers

Swedish shipping company Sirius Shipping has signed a time charter deal with compatriot supplier of shipping fuel Preem for two new methanol-ready tankers.

As informed, the two tankers will be long-term chartered by Preem to mainly distribute finished products, but also to be able to supply the refineries with renewable feedstock. According to Preem, they will form the foundation of the firm’s next-generation transport system.

To remind, Sirius Shipping ordered two plus two methanol-ready 15,000 dwt oil/chemical tankers at China Merchants Jinling Shipyard, Yangzho in September last year.

The tankers will have a length of 147 meters long, with a beam of 22 meters and a draft of 8.7 meters. They will feature 16,800 cbm plus 730 cbm deck tanks, a hybrid battery, and a shore connection.

Sirius Shipping emphasized that the vessels will be prepared for methanol propulsion and will be equipped with the latest technology to comply with future regulations. Norwegian equipment provider Kongsberg Maritime has been contracted to supply design, engineering, and equipment for the ships.

The two sisters will fly the Swedish flag with homeport Donsö in the Gothenburg archipelago and will be delivered to Preem in the second half of 2026.

“We look forward to taking delivery of the two sister ships, a further result of our long collaboration with Sirius Shipping. Preem has high ambitions to reduce its environmental impact and these two vessels will play an important role in our challenge to reach climate neutrality by 2035. By investing in new and modern tankers, Preem shows its commitment to sustainability and safety in shipping. At the same time, we support our customers in reaching their challenging goals,” said Daniel Berndolf , head of the shipping department at Preem.
