Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri has received a contract to build two eco-friendly cruise ships for Swiss cruise line Viking.
As informed, the new ships will be built according to the latest environmental rules and navigation regulations and will be equipped with modern safety systems.
Furthermore, the vessels will boast new technologies for the development of eco-friendly fuels and sustainable zero-emission power generation systems.
The new vessels will be placed in the small cruise ship segment and the gross tonnage is about 54,300 tons. They will accommodate 998 passengers on board in 499 cabins.

The vessels will be delivered in 2028 and 2029. The value of this agreement is between €500 million and €1 billion.
Fincantieri and Viking have been collaborating since 2012. The Italian shipbuilder received orders to build 20 ships for the cruise line, including two purpose-built expedition units built by Fincantieri’s subsidiary Vard.
In 2022, Fincantieri and Viking closed a deal for hydrogen-powered cruise ships.
