Singapore-based company Hann-Ocean Energy has concluded its wave energy generation project on Shengsi Island, Zhejiang Province, after two and a half years of sea trials.
The project, which began in January 2022 , focused on testing the performance and stability of the Drakoo 15 kW wave energy converter and evaluating various coating schemes for future durable technologies.
In February 2023, Hann-Ocean Energy launched the Drakoo wave energy device for a second round of sea trials at the Shengsi archipelago in China. The launch , which took more than four hours, officially marked the start of the second round of a six-month sea trial.
During the sea trials, the wave energy converter proved reliable in extreme weather conditions and showed higher power generation efficiency at sea compared to wave tank tests, said the company.
Hann-Ocean Energy enhanced the accuracy of wave energy development with its software and upgraded the wave energy converter core design.
The company has developed a plan for commercial application, including product design iteration, extensive sea trials, and new application scenarios. The company also plans to collaborate with offshore wind power projects for energy complementarity.
Project leader Han Lei highlighted the commitment to advancing wave energy from Shengsi to the global stage and thanked the Shengsi government for its support during the sea trials and forums.
