The Netherlands-based shortsea ship operator and logistics company Longship has launched the second low-consumption general cargo ship built by GS Yard BV in Waterhuizen.
Launched on July 25, the ship named Longsky is the second of two GS Eco-Freighter 3700 vessels ordered by Longship through a joint project with Norway’s shipbroker Wagle Chartering.
The Dutch-flagged vessel is expected to join the Longship’s fleet in the fourth quarter of 2024.
The first ship, Longsun, was launched on April 19, 2024.
The vessels are designed by Groot Ship Design and feature single open top box-shaped holds of about 181,000 cbft intake. The vessels are equipped with two bulkheads that can be used as tween decks. They are fitted for grain, timber, project cargoes and are driven by a IMO Tier III compliant Mitsubishi S12R engine with an output of 749 kW.
Wagle Chartering will be assigned with the commercial operation, while Longship Management BV will take care of the technical and crew management of the newbuildings.
Recently, the Dutch shipping company held a launching and christening ceremony for the third out of four ultra-low-emission, diesel-electric general cargo ships at Türkiye’s Atlas Shipyard.
The 8,600 dwt eco-friendly newbuild was named Longearth and is expected to be ready for delivery at the beginning of 2025.
