French sailing freight transport company TransOceanic Wind Transport (TOWT) has taken delivery of Artemis, its second sailing cargo vessel.
After over two years of construction, Piriou Vietnam shipyard handed over the newbuilding in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, on August 20, 2024.
The innovative wind-powered vessel has a 1,100-ton goods capacity and is designed to spend 320 days at sea per year.
In the next few days, Artemis will load boxes and modems, tean, and a little coffee. On course for the prevailing easterly winds establishing in the Indian Ocean, Artemis is preparing to head south into the South China Sea and the Karimata Strait.

The 81-meter-long Artemis is the second of eight sisterships ordered by TOWT. Their construction is expected to result in a more than 95% reduction in CO2 emissions compared to fossil-powered containerships. With eight ships, TOWT said it will contribute to saving around 40,000 tonnes of CO2 by transporting around 200,000 tonnes of goods.
Earlier this month, Anemos, the first sailing cargo ship in the company’s fleet, embarked on its maiden voyage to New York.
