Maritime services provider Wilhelmsen Ships Service (WSS) has become the first company to have its cargo moved by Singapore’s first fully electric cargo vessel Hydromover during the ship’s commercial trials.
This successful electric cargo transfer—facilitated by OPL Services, the first harbor craft operator to trial the Hydromover—from the Wilhelmsen Ships Service jetty at Pandan Loop to the receiving vessel M/V Wadi Almalekat at the Eastern Anchorage AEBB area, is said to mark a key milestone in decarbonizing Singapore’s port operations.
Wilhelmsen Ships Service’s early adoption of the Hydromover reflects its commitment to driving sustainability in maritime logistics.
“As we continue to advance sustainable solutions in maritime operations, Wilhelmsen Ships Service’s participation in this trial exemplifies our shared vision for a cleaner, greener future,” Singapore-based green technology solutions provider Yinson GreenTech (YGT) said.
Last week, YGT’s marinEV commenced commercial trials of Hydromover, marking “a critical milestone” in the decarbonization of Singapore’s maritime industry.
Developed by the Goal Zero Consortium and funded by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) and Singapore Maritime Institute (SMI), the zero-emission vessel is designed with swappable battery solutions and can carry up to 25 tonnes of cargo.
The commercial trials are open to industry leaders looking to reduce carbon footprint from their business activities. This is expected to support Singapore’s goal of achieving net-zero emissions in the domestic harbor craft sector by 2050 while allowing harbor craft operators to trial a fully electric lighter craft as part of their existing fleet.
