UK-headquartered Tocardo, a producer of tidal and free-flow water turbines, has relocated its European operations from Den Oever to Vlissingen, Province Zeeland, Netherlands.

The move places the company closer to key partners in the Offshore For Sure (O4S) project , such as Water2Energy, World Class Maintenance (WCM), FLASC, and the University of Applied Sciences in Vlissingen. Tocardo’s head office and workshop remain in the UK.

“The new Vlissingen office at De Kaap in Dockwize is perfectly positioned near major offshore engineering industries, offering access to first-class harbor, workshop and event facilities,” noted Tocardo in a social media post.

Tocardo’s ongoing work with WCM and Istimewa focuses on a total quality plan and readiness assessment for the T3 turbine technology, alongside the development of a next-generation control system and digital twin technology. Additionally, the tidal and free-flow turbines company claims to be in the process of establishing a data center in Vlissingen to manage and analyze data from its projects across Europe, supporting further development of tidal energy solutions and turbine designs.

Tocardo’s T-3 turbine design builds on insights from the 1.25 MW tidal energy demonstration array in Eastern Scheldt which was concluded in October 2023 after eight years of operation. Designed for cost-efficient large-scale production, the turbines generate power in both directions, as the tide comes in and goes out.

Hydrowing unveiled in November 2023 that it plans to feature Tocardo’s T3 tidal turbines in a tidal energy project in Wales , supported by the UK government’s renewables auction scheme.

In January 2024, Inyanga Marine Energy Group opened a new office in Wales to support the development of the 10 MW HydroWing tidal stream energy project at Morlais, Anglesey.

In May, Stork’s asset management consultants were selected by World Class Maintenance (WCM) to support de-risking and performance improvement efforts for several offshore renewable energy technologies, including those developed by Tocardo.

As part of the O4S project, Stork is set to perform reliability, availability, and maintainability (RAM) analyses on the UK firm’s tidal energy technology.
