China Shipbuilding Trading, a subsidiary of the China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), has held a naming ceremony for the final vessel of a series of ten 7,000 TEU containerships.
The vessel, which now carries the name One Responsibility, boasts a length of 272 meters, a beam of 42,8 meters and a depth of 24,6 meters . It was reportedly designed by the Shanghai Merchant Ship Design and Research Institute (SDARI). Canada’s shipping company Seaspan commissioned the ship while China’s Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding built it.
Moreover, the medium-sized vessel’s commercial owner is Ocean Network Express (ONE), which was established back in July 2017 with the integration of Japan’s titans, Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (‘K’ Line), Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL), and Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK Line).
As disclosed, the Singapore-flagged Post Panamax boxship has an exhaust gas cleaning system, otherwise known as a scrubber . The vessel also achieves “ very low energy consumption” at “ high speeds” , which ‘ups’ its operational performance.
After signing a contract to build six 15,500 TEU large container ships in 2021, CSSC and Seaspan continued the cooperation on further projects, involving ten 7,000 TEU boxships, six 10,800-car pure cure, truck carriers (PCTCs), as well as six more 16,600 TEU container vessels, CSSC highlighted.
In October this year, containership lessor Seaspan Corporation, headquartered in Hong Kong, placed an order for six eco-friendly boxships at CSSC’s subsidiary, Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding. As understood, Hudong-Zhonghua independently developed and designed the 13,600 TEU vessels. Their delivery date is between 2026 and 2028.
Just days later, Seaspan Corporation signed a charter agreement for the vessels with compatriot shipowner Orient Overseas Container Lines (OOCL).
