GoodFuels delivers B30 biofuel blend to Norwegian Cruise Line ship in the Netherlands

Norwegian Cruise Line has taken the next step in its decarbonization journey with the adoption of biofuel, which is estimated to enable up to 80-90% reduction in lifecycle CO2 emissions without engine modifications.

Norwegian Cruise Line’s ship Norwegian Dawn recently received a B30 sustainable biofuel blend from the Dutch provider GoodFuels while docked at the IJmuiden Cruise Terminal in the Netherlands.

The B30 biofuel blend, produced exclusively from feedstocks certified as 100% waste and residues, was supplied by FincoEnergies in partnership with KPI OceanConnect.

“By choosing GoodFuels’ sustainable biofuel, Norwegian Dawn can achieve up to 80-90% reduction in lifecycle CO2 emissions compared to traditional marine diesel—requiring no engine modifications to realize these benefits,” GoodFuels said.

As explained, this initiative aligns with Norwegian Cruise Line’s ‘Sail and Sustain’ program, which advocates for the use of renewable fuels across 40% of its fleet.

Believing that biodiesel is a viable transition fuel that can support the decarbonization journey as long-term solutions are tested and scaled, Norwegian Cruise Line has completed tests of biofuel blends on multiple ships since 2022.

During the summer of 2024, the cruise line’s ships Norwegian Escape, Seven Seas Voyager, and Oceania Riviera were bunkered with biofuel at the Port of Barcelona .
