French shipping giant CMA CGM has taken delivery of another LNG-powered newbuild from South Korean shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries.
The shipowner announced the delivery of CMA CGM Fort Diamant via social media on November 18, 2024.
The dual-fuel LNG ship is 168 meters long and has a 7,362 TEU capacity.
According to data from VesselsValue, CMA CGM has already taken delivery of two LNG-powered vessels with the same capacity, CMA CGM Fort Bourbon and CMA CGM Fort James, earlier this year.
The French shipowner has one more ship from this series on order at the South Korean shipyard and its delivery is expected in January 2025.
“We’re thrilled to welcome the CMA CGM FORT DIAMANT, the latest marvel from Samsung Heavy Industries in South Korea. Another LNG-powered vessel in our innovative fleet, serving as a beacon of sustainability on the seas,” CMA CGM said.
CMA CGM’s fleet was recently expanded with two 2,000 TEU LNG-fueled ships , CMA CGM Sintra and CMA CGM Altamira, which were built by HD Hyundai Mipo in South Korea.
At the end of August 2024, the shipowner completed its fleet of six 13,000 TEU LNG dual-fuel containerships built by Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding in China.
In other company-related news, CMA CGM today (November 18, 2024) revealed the winners of the first CMA CGM Startup Awards, an international competition, organized in partnership with BFM Business, La Tribune and ZEBOX.
The participants presented solutions focused on the shipping, logistics, and media sectors, highlighting technological innovations, particularly in the field of artificial intelligence.
Winners from the shipping sector include, among others, Sébastien Fiedorow , CEO of Aerleum, for the development of technology to produce synthetic fuels from atmospheric CO2, and Friederike Hesse , Co-founder of ZERO44, for a software that enables shipping companies to find the most economically viable compliance strategies for carbon regulations (CII, EU ETS, FuelEU) and to reach carbon zero.
