Eco Wave Power has unveiled preparations to inaugurate Israel’s first wave energy pilot project on December 5, 2024, at Jaffa Port, marking a step in the country’s renewable energy endeavors.
The EWP-EDF One system, developed in collaboration with EDF Renewables Israel and supported by Tel Aviv-Yafo Municipality, the Chief Scientist of the Ministry of Energy, and Atarim, is located at Warehouse 2 in Jaffa Port, the company noted.
According to Eco Wave Power, the project, housed within the Blue Economy Innovation Hub in Jaffa, will be the first in Israel to directly supply wave-generated electricity to the national grid.
The pilot underscores Tel Aviv-Yafo’s push for sustainability and innovation. Mayor Ron Huldai will formally inaugurate the facility alongside senior energy officials investors, and strategic partners.

One of the milestones that Eco Wave Power tucked under its belt in 2023 took place in Israel, where the EWP-EDF One Project in the Port of Jaffa was linked to the national electrical grid. This marked the first time wave energy was connected to the country’s National Electrical Grid through a power purchase agreement (PPA).

Just recently, Eco Wave Power received the final Nationwide Permit (NWP) from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for its wave energy pilot project at the Port of Los Angeles, marking a step toward the first U.S. onshore wave energy installation.
This project is part of Eco Wave Power’s collaboration with Shell International Exploration and Production . The agreement, unveiled in April, aims to bring wave energy technology to the Port of Los Angeles.
