Sixth AtoB@C plug-in hybrid ship hits the water

AtoB@C Shipping, a Sweden-based subsidiary of Finnish shipping company ESL Shipping, has launched its plug-in hybrid newbuild, Terramar, at India’s Chowgule shipyard.

Terramar is the sixth in a series of twelve 5,350 plug-in hybrid vessels AtoB@C Shipping ordered from Chowgule & Company, with one vessel to be delivered every quarter until the autumn of 2026.

So far, four vessels have been handed over to AtoB@C, including Electramar , Stellamar , Ecomar , and Aquamar .

The fifth vessel, Maximar, was launched on September 5, 2024, and the outfitting of the vessel continues ahead of delivery later this year.

These vessels feature a gross tonnage of 4,200, a length of 90 meters, and a width of 16 meters.

Furthermore, they are designed with hybrid propulsion and shore power connectivity. With a deadweight tonnage of 5,350 and ice class certification, the vessels are fit for efficient and sustainable operations.

In addition, integrating battery technology allows for emission-free and quiet port visits, significantly decreasing CO2 emissions by nearly 50% compared to the current generation of vessels, according to the shipping company.
