Canada’s manufacturer and distributor of asphalt and bitumen products McAsphalt Industries has welcomed the newbuild 12,500 dwt LNG-powered bitumen tanker to its fleet.
According to the company, the newbuild named McAsphalt Advantage represents a strategic investment in ensuring the long-term security of bitumen supplies and a “significant advancement” in logistical capabilities.
Powered by LNG, the vessel has an overall length of 140 meters, a beam of 23.75 meters, and a cargo capacity of 11,000 cubic meters.
McAsphalt Advantage was designed by FKAB Marine Design and built by Wuhu Shipyard in China. Finland’s technology group Wärtsilä was contracted to deliver two 20DF dual-fuel engines, as well as controllable pitch propellers, gearboxes, Energopac rudders, and a transverse thruster.
The ship will fly the Canadian flag and will be used to support the company’s asphalt trades in the Great Lakes region in Canada.
