The Dutch shortsea ship operator and logistics company Longship has placed an order for two 3,700 dwt general cargo vessels at the compatriot shipyard GS Projects.
The newly ordered duo belongs to an eco-friendly series of vessels and is due for delivery in 2025, according to Intermodal Shipbrokers.
The price of the newbuilds was not disclosed.
The latest order comes on the heels of Longship’s shipbuilding contract with GS Projects, Ship and Steelbuilding (SaS), and Groot Ship Design, which was revealed in early September 2024.
The contract includes building a series of four 6,000 dwt PMAX ECO TRADER vessels designed for “highly efficient fuel consumption and advanced eco-friendly technologies”. The delivery of these vessels is scheduled to begin in 2026.
In other related news, Longship entered a joint newbuilding project with Norway’s shipbroker Wagle Chartering for two general cargo ships at the beginning of 2024.
The first ship, Longsun, was launched on April 19, while the second one, Longsky , was launched on July 25, 2024.
In October 2024, the company also welcomed the second of four ultra-low-emission, diesel-electric general cargo ships built at Türkiye’s Atlas Shipyard. The 8,600 dwt general cargo vessel, dubbed the Longeon is part of an en bloc order the Dutch company placed in January last year.
The third vessel of the series, Longearth , is due for delivery at the beginning of 2025.
