A consortium comprising LS Cable & System, Jan De Nul, and Denys has received a letter of allocation (LOA) from German/Dutch transmission system operator (TSO) TenneT for the supply of high-voltage direct current (HVDC) cables for the BalWin5 grid connection project in Germany.
Under the LOA, the consortium will be responsible for the manufacture, transport, installation, and testing of 525 kV HVDC power cables for the BalWin5 grid connection project, which is part of TenneT’s 2 GW program.
The LOA covers both offshore and onshore power cables linking an offshore converter station in the German North Sea to a planned onshore converter station in Bremen, Germany.
Specific details related to the contract may change during additional negotiations, and the finalized details will be announced at the time of signing this contract in the future, according to LS Cable & System.
The expected contract signing date is the fourth quarter of 2026.
In May 2023, the consortium signed contracts with TenneT to install 525 kV HVDC cable systems for several offshore wind projects in Germany.
The consortium of Jan De Nul, LS Cable, and Denys will realize the cable connections in Lower Saxony, to BalWin4 and LanWin1, both to be connected in the Unterweser area, and LanWin5 in the Rastede area, Germany.
In terms of other news coming from LS Cable & System, the company was recently selected as the preferred submarine cable supplier for the 504 MW Taenan offshore wind farm in South Korea.
