Chinese shipbuilder Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding, part of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), has delivered Seascout, a 114,000 dwt tanker newbuilding, to Greek shipping company Thenamaris.
The Seascout has been described as the latest generation of Aframax product tankers independently developed and designed by Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding.
The long-range 2 (LR2) tanker is equipped with hydrodynamic energy-saving ducts, vortex-eliminating fins, and a green power system which significantly improves the comprehensive hydrodynamic performance and energy efficiency level.
In particular, the vessel has been verified to meet the third stage of the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) standard, the Tier III emission requirements of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), as well as the latest sulfur oxide emission requirements, which makes the vessel a green ship combining environmental protection, energy saving, safety, and economy.
Flying the flag of Malta, the Thenamaris-controlled vessel features a length of 250 meters and a width of 44 meters.
With the delivery of the Seascout, Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding ushered in the busy January 2025, when many new vessels were completed and delivered one after another.
According to statistics, Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding has so far delivered a total of nearly 60 Aframax product tankers, with more than 20 orders in hand.
This year, the company has more diverse ship types under construction. According to the annual plan, the company is to deliver 20+ vessels in batches throughout the year. These include 8,600 CEU LNG dual-fuel pure car, truck carriers (PCTCs), 7,000 TEU medium-sized containerships , and 114,000 dwt Aframax product tankers.
In addition, the construction has begun on a sixth 2.3 million barrel floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) unit, a 10,800 CEU dual-fuel PCTC and 158,000-ton Suezmax tankers.
What is more, the second locally made large cruise ship will celebrate key construction milestones this year. To remind, the first large cruise ship built in China was floated out at Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding shipyard in late 2021.
