Egyptian companies DeepTech, part of MCS Group, and Petroleum Marine Services (PMS) have brought the third and final well into production as part of Phase 10 of the West Delta Deep Marine (WDDM) gas field development project offshore Egypt.
The partners, in charge of the engineering, procurement, installation, and commissioning (EPIC), completed the offshore operations for Phase X of WDDM for Burullus Gas Company, a joint venture of Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) and Shell Petroleum.
The WDDM concession is located approximately 90 kilometers offshore Egypt, on the north-western part of the Nile Delta. Significant gas volumes have been discovered in numerous fields and reservoirs, which have been progressively developed to maintain current and future gas supplies to the Egyptian domestic market and the Egyptian Liquefied Natural Gas (ELNG) plant.
The WDDM Phase X includes three subsea wells, namely Sapsat-3, Sepia-1, and Seagull West-1, being brought online to supplement the existing 70 wells, at water depths ranging from 450 to 660 meters, integrated into the existing subsea infrastructure.
DeepTech and PMS also installed two subsea umbilicals, five and two kilometers long, providing power to the wells, in simultaneous operations (SIMOPS) between the PMS MAYO and PMS Burullus vessels, using DeepTech’s work-class remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) and MCS’ photo-realistic 3D Cloud (PRC) for 3D subsea metrology and survey operations. According to the companies, the umbilical installation operation totaled 95 hours within a seven-day period.
MCS Group’s subsea engineering team provided all engineering, while PMS delivered its expertise for fabrication, lifting marine operations, and logistics. Project management activities were carried out by the joint team operating from a dedicated project office in Cairo.
The same partnership executed the Burullus WDDM field operation support contract for the past nine years.
London-headquartered engineering consultancy Longitude Engineering, part of ABL Group, was in charge of the design and engineering services for the subsea development of WDDM’s Phase X.
