Singapore-based shipping company Ocean Network Express One (ONE) has held a naming ceremony for its first owned newbuild container vessel – the 13,800 TEU methanol-ready ONE Sparkle.
ONE announced the naming of the newbuild on February 14, describing the event as ‘a significant milestone’ in its corporate history.
ONE Sparkle was built at Hyundai Heavy Industries in Ulsan, South Korea, with methanol- and ammonia-ready fuel capability and the option to be converted to these alternative fuels in the future.
The containership also features an optimized hull design for improved energy efficiency, energy-saving devices, smart technology for optimal performance, as well as shore power connection capabilities, ONE highlighted.
Classed by the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), ONE Sparkle will fly Singaporean flag and be managed by OneSea Solutions, a ship management company jointly owned by ONE and Seaspan Corporation.

As we expand our owned fleet, these advanced vessels will play a crucial role in meeting our environmental targets while enhancing our service reliability.”
The latest addition to ONE’s fleet is part of a series of 20 large ammonia/methanol-ready vessels that will be built in Korea and Japan with deliveries due in 2025 and 2026.
In addition, the shipping company has twelve 13,000 TEU methanol dual-fuel containerships on order in China. Slated for delivery from 2027, the units represent ONE’s inaugural fleet of methanol-dual fuel vessels.
According to its 2024 Sustainability Report released on October 15, 2024, the company is on track to achieve a 70% reduction in Scope 1 emissions per TEU-km from a 2008 baseline by 2030—in line with its target.
As a signatory of the Call to Action for Shipping Decarbonisation , ONE supports efforts to fully decarbonize maritime shipping by 2050. To this end, the company developed and launched its Green Strategy as well as the Decarbonization Roadmap, prioritizing five key areas: carbon management, operational efficiency, green investment, alternative fuels and ecosystem building.
