Navantia UK to produce subsea structures for McDermott at recently acquired yard

Navantia UK has secured a contract with McDermott for the delivery of subsea structures that will be manufactured at the Arnish facility it recently acquired as part of the purchase of Harland & Wolff.

Navantia UK completed the acquisition of the British shipbuilder Harland & Wolff and its operations across four sites – Belfast in Northern Ireland, Appledore in the South West of England, and Methil and Arnish in Scotland, on January 27.

It has now been announced that the Arnish fabrication facility in the Outer Hebrides won a significant contract with McDermott Trinidad Ltd. for the manufacture of subsea structures.

As part of the year-long contract that is expected to support continued workforce expansion at the site, the Arnish team will deliver critical subsea components for a project in Trinidad and Tobago.

In August 2024, McDermott reported it had won an engineering, procurement, construction, installation (EPCI), hook-up, and commissioning contract with Shell Trinidad and Tobago Limited for the Manatee gas field development.

Juan de la Cueva , CEO of Navantia UK, said: “We are delighted to partner with McDermott Trinidad on this important project. By securing international work for our Arnish facility, we are not only supporting skilled jobs in the Outer Hebrides but also showcasing Scottish engineering excellence globally. This contract represents exactly the type of high-value manufacturing that we want to bring to our UK facilities.”

To remind, all Harland & Wolff employees, more than 1,000 of them across the four sites, transferred to Navantia UK with their existing terms and conditions preserved following the acquisition.
