COSCO Shipping Specialized Carriers, a unit of China’s COSCO Shipping Group, recently held a christening ceremony for its newest eco-friendly 77,000 dwt multipurpose pulp carrier Green Qingdao.

As disclosed, the company marked the delivery of the newbuilding on February 19, 2025 at the COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry (Dalian) yard. The ship features a length of 225 meters, a beam of 32.2 meters, and a depth of 21 meters.

Green Qingdao is understood to be the fifteenth unit in the 77,000-ton multipurpose vessel series. According to the China-based shipping player, it is slated to transport a wide range of cargo, such as high-speed trains, wind power equipment, new energy vehicles as well as large machinery.

The pulp vessel is described as having been conceptualized as a sustainability- and energy efficiency-forward vessel. It also features box-shaped cargo holds outfitted with rotary dehumidifiers for ‘optimal’ storage conditions, COSCO Shipping Specialized Carriers has shared.

Now that it has been handed over, the newbuild is set to operate on the South America-East Coast route, transporting new energy vehicles and containers from ports in China all the way to Brazil.

At present, COSCO Shipping Specialized Carriers reportedly owns and operates a fleet of over 160 specialised vessels, having taken delivery of over 50 newbuild multipurpose units ranging from 62,000 to 77,000 dwt in recent years.

Back in July 2024, the shipping player christened the 77,000 dwt multipurpose pulp vessel Green Itajai , which COSCO Shipping had ordered in 2022 at COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry (Dalian) shipyard.

The following month, the company welcomed three new energy-efficient pulp carriers : the 72,000 cbm COSCO SHIPPING Ji Xiang and COSCO SHIPPING Ru Yi, and the 88,000 cbm Green Munguba, for which a naming ceremony was held on August 22, 2024, at the same yard as mentioned above.

Moreover, in mid-September last year, COSCO Shipping Specialized Carriers gave a warm welcome to MV Yuan Fu, its second unit in the 62,000 dwt multipurpose heavy lift vessel series, at the CSSC Chengxi Shipyard in Jiangyin, China.

As explained, in addition to MV Yuan Fu, a total of 10 newbuildings in this series are scheduled to be turned over by the end of 2025.
