U.S.-headquartered TDI-Brooks has completed a third-party geotechnical coring project offshore Trinidad and Tobago for Geohidra, a Venezuelan company.
The operation was carried out from the Dragon Field offshore Venezuela to the Shell-operated Hibiscus platform off Trinidad and Tobago’s North Coast, aboard the Dona Jose 2 vessel.
TDI-Brooks reported it had performed a total of 18 cone penetration tests (CPTs) using the Neptune 3,000 miniature coiled rod CPT system, achieving penetration depths between 3.25 and 6.25 meters in water depths of 130 to 150 meters. Additionally, 18 box core samples and 18 Cyclic Mini T-Bar tests on box core samples were completed.
To remind, Trinidad and Tobago and Venezuela signed the agreement for the joint exploitation of gas in the territorial waters shared by the countries, as well as to work together on the Dragon Field on September 21, 2023.
The Dragon Field, which lies in Venezuelan waters near the maritime border with Trinidad, is said to hold up to 4.2 trillion cubic feet of gas.
It was reported in October 2024 that Dona Jose 2, chartered by Geohidra, was about to begin a geophysical and geotechnical survey on the gas project. The commencement of the surveys came at an accelerated speed of only ten months after Trinidad and Tobago received a 30-year license to explore, produce, and export gas from the Dragon Field.
