The Yokohama-based shipbuilding major Japan Marine United Corporation (JMU) has rolled out the red carpet for an environmentally friendly 211,928 dwt bulk carrier constructed for Singapore’s Eastern Pacific Shipping (EPS).
As informed, JMU passed the watch of the newbuilding, christened Mount Yotei, to EPS on March 5, 2025, during a ceremony held at the former’s Tsu Shipyard in the southeastern Mie prefecture.
With a gross tonnage of 108,999 GT, the newbuild boasts an overall length of 299.9 meters, a beam of 50 meters, a depth of 25 meters, and a draft of 18.4 meters. As per the Japanese shipbuilder, Mount Yotei is the second unit belonging to a new N211BC series, which is directly related to the older J Series 211BC design.
Sailing under the flag of Liberia, the bulk carrier has reportedly been outfitted with a wide range of solutions focused on energy efficiency and emission control. To be more precise, according to JMU, Mount Yotei has been fitted with exhaust gas cleaning systems (EGCSs), or scrubbers —devices made to cut the environmental impact of exhaust gases from vessels—as well as an array of the company’s proprietary solutions.
As disclosed, these include energy-saving technology such as the Super Stream Duct, which is said to decrease energy consumption by around 3%, the Surf-Bulb, which JMU argued increases propulsive force and slashes energy use by approximately 3-7%, and the advanced low viscous resistance fin (ALV-Fin), described as aiding in better propulsive efficiency.
Owing to this convergence of technology, the ship is anticipated to achieve ‘tremendous’ nitrogen oxide (NOx), sulfur oxide (SOx) as well as carbon dioxide (CO2) emission reductions.
What is more, the newbuilding’s design ensures that the bulker is compliant with future environmental guidelines by “preemptively meeting” the Phase III requirements of the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) standards that are mandatory for ships contracted from this year onward, JMU representatives spotlighted.
To remind, in early February 2025, Japan Marine United Corporation and Eastern Pacific Shipping came together to mark the handover of the 211,981 dwt bulk carrier Mount Anjin. Built to the same specifications as Mount Yotei, the vessel was claimed to be the first Newcastlemax unit under EPS’ ownership to be built by JMU.
It is understood that another unit is currently under construction at the Tsu shipyard for EPS.
Namely, per brokerage firm China Shipbuilding, Japan Marine United Corporation is building another unit of a similar size for Singapore’s shipping player. Currently named, Mount Lhotse, the vessel is anticipated to be delivered sometime during 2025.
