Danish power cable manufacturer and installation firm NKT has embarked on a mission to expand production capacity at its cable accessories site in Nordenham, Germany, to meet the continued high demand for medium-voltage power cable accessories in Europe.

While announcing the increase in production capacity at its site in Nordenham, NKT underlined that the upgrade would strengthen operations and boost output by more than 50%. The new facilities are scheduled to become fully operational in 2026.

Denis Schuler , Executive Vice President, Head of Accessories at NKT, commented: “We are experiencing substantial demand for our medium-voltage power cable accessories, particularly from Central Europe, the global wind sector, and Original Equipment Manufacturer customers.

“To stay ahead in delivery performance, market needs, and competitiveness, we have initiated this significant capacity upgrade. This expansion reflects our continued commitment to supporting the energy transition and reinforcing our position as a trusted partner to customers across Europe and beyond.”

The capacity increase is perceived to be focused on the addition of machinery for the production of silicone-based medium-voltage power cable accessories, which represents the core output of the factory.

The investment is expected to support organizational development, including the enhancement of workforce capabilities and the potential expansion of the workforce in Nordenham, where approximately 320 employees work.

The firm is enhancing both production capacity and installation capabilities across its business in recognition of the strategic importance cable accessories are said to play in the global upgrade of power grids.

The Nordenham site became part of the company in 1999, following the acquisition of Felten & Guilleaume from the Moeller Group. Currently, NKT is finalising an upgrade in its high-voltage cable accessories factory in Alingsås, Sweden .
