Finnish technology group Wärtsilä has decided to divest Wärtsilä Gas Solutions to Mutares SE & Co. KGaA, a German private equity investor.

As part of Wärtsilä Portfolio Business, Gas Solutions has operated independently to accelerate performance improvements and unlock value to the Finnish player through divestment. The annual revenue of the segment was €300 million in 2024. Subject to approvals, the divestment is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2026.

Bernd Bertram , Head of Portfolio Business of Wärtsilä, commented: “This divestment is yet another proof point of our Portfolio Business divestment strategy coming to life. With Mutares, Gas Solutions will have a strong platform to continue driving the business, for the benefit of its customers and the highly skilled Gas Solutions professionals.”

The core expertise of Gas Solutions, which offers innovative systems and comprehensive lifecycle solutions for the gas value chain, includes handling of gas in maritime transport, inert gas systems, enabling gas-to-power, and delivering liquefaction and biogas solutions.

This segment of Wärtsilä’s business operates globally, supporting customers on their journey towards a sustainable future through a focus on lifecycle expertise, innovation and digitalization. The sale comes after the Finnish firm secured a five-year renewal of its existing lifecycle agreement with TMS Cardiff Gas.
