Norway’s Reach Subsea has won a contract to perform an external inspection of a large part of the subsea pipeline portfolio of Norwegian state-owned gas grid operator Gassco, using its Reach Remote 1 uncrewed surface vessel (USV).

Under the contract secured with Equinor on behalf of Gassco, Reach Subsea will perform external inspection of approximately 3,500 kilometers of pipeline in Norway and along export routes to Denmark, Germany and the UK, with options for additional work in the Netherlands , Belgium and France.

Reach Remote 1 , fully qualified in 2025, will be used for the work, and, where required, the company’s high‑speed survey SROV capability operated from a conventionally crewed vessel.

The planning and preparation of the inspection campaign will begin immediately, with the majority of the offshore operation performed in the second quarter of the year.

Reach Remote 1 also received the Cargo Ship Trading Certificate from the Norwegian Maritime Authority this week, now holding full flag-state approval for commercial operations in European waters, after previously having operated under temporary permission.

“This contract is a strong validation of Reach Subsea’s remote inspection capabilities and our long‑term investment in uncrewed and autonomous technologies. The scale and geographic spread of the campaign demonstrate how Reach Remote can be deployed efficiently across multiple regions while maintaining high operational and data quality standards. Now also with the firm Cargo Ship Trading Certificate,” said Jostein Alendal , CEO of Reach Subsea.
