Italy-headquartered Next Geosolutions (NextGeo) has commenced marine surveys for the new Milano-Montalto electricity connection, a strategic infrastructure project aimed at strengthening Italy’s national grid.
The activities will cover the seabed route between Montalto di Castro and Massa and will collect essential geophysical, geotechnical and environmental data to support the design and future installation of the submarine cables.
The electricity connection, part of Terna’s wider Hypergrid program, includes an approximately 500-kilometer HVDC connection, with 280 kilometers related to the submarine section, with a transmission capacity of 2.100 MW.
The submarine cable section will begin in a conversion station to be built in Montalto di Castro (Viterbo), taking advantage of industrial sites that are being decommissioned, and will end near Avenza (Massa-Carrara), where an overhead-cable transition station will be built in the area currently occupied by an electrical substation belonging to Terna.
