This Friday seems to be about Floating LNG news. Following the news that Petronas has produced first LNG from its first FLNG unit in Malaysia, and that CHC will provide more helicopters for Shell’s large Prelude FLNG project in Australia, there’s more on FLNG.
Namely, Japan’s JGC Corporation has received an order for the construction management and completion support services for the Prelude FLNG.
The Prelude FLNG project is the world’s largest FLNG project which is expected to produce 3,6 million tons of LNG annually by using natural gas from the offshore Prelude and Concerto Gas Fields located approximately 475 km North-North East of Broome, Western Australia.
After the completion of all work at the shipyard in South Korea, the FLNG facility will be towed to its operating location offshore of Western Australia.
The final investment decision for the project was made in May, 2011. According to JGC, module installation work has been completed in South Korea, where the unit is being built. And now, construction work is in its final stages and commissioning well and truly underway, JGC said. The FLNG unit is being built by Samsung Heavy Industry, and Shell Australia, has now contracted JGC to support the completions work for its safe and on-schedule completion.
“JGC prides itself in providing world class project management expertise and will carry out its construction management and completion support services for the Prelude FLNG project while securing work safety,” JGC said on Friday.
