DOF-operated multi-purpose offshore vessel Skandi Darwin, formerly known as Olympic Commander, has started its contract on the Shell-operated Prelude project in Australia.
In July 2016, DOF Subsea was awarded a five-year IMR contract with Shell to provide IMR services and a multi-purpose supply vessel to the Prelude floating LNG unit. The contract included two two-year options.
DOF Subsea informed on Monday that the chartered-in vessel Skandi Darwin started its contract with Shell on Sunday, November 26, 2017. The vessel is of an MT 6015 design built by Kleven Verft in 2012.
Under the contract, DOF Subsea will provide project management, engineering and integrated services for IMR programs as well as the dedicated vessel and options for other vessels.
Mons S. Aase , the CEO of DOF Subsea, added: “This is a cornerstone contract for the group with high strategic importance through strengthened presence in the Subsea IMR Projects segment in the Asia Pacific region.”
DOF took over management and operations of two vessels previously owned by Olympic Shipping back in February this year. The two vessels in question were Olympic Commander and Olympic Hera later renamed Skandi Darwin and Skandi Hera, respectively.
When it comes to Shell’s Prelude project, the 488-meter-long and 74-meter-wide floating facility left the shipyard in South Korea in late June and reached the Australian waters in late July. It was built by the Technip-Samsung consortium. The unit is now located in the Browse Basin, approximately 475km north-north east of Broome in Western Australia, secured with 16 mooring chains since August.
Prelude FLNG facility will stay at the location for 20 to 25 years. The Prelude FLNG project is operated by Shell in joint venture with Inpex (17.5%), KOGAS (10%) and OPIC (5%).
