Norwegian oil services company Aker Solutions is preparing to start building components for the Statoil-operated Johan Castberg development located in the Barents Sea offshore Norway.

In an update on its social media channels on Monday, Aker Solutions said that its yard in Sandnessjøen, Norway is gearing up to start building ten subsea templates for Johan Castberg and two topside modules for the FPSO.

“We look forward to working closely with Statoil on this exciting project,” says Annbjørg Skjerve , the site manager at Sandnessjøen.

Aker Solutions was awarded a contract by Statoil to supply the subsea production system and design the topside of the FPSO facility for the Johan Castberg development in December 2017 . The total value of the work for Aker Solutions is about NOK 4 billion (about $510 million at current exchange rates).

The subsea production system will consist of 30 wells with vertical subsea trees, wellheads, control systems, 10 templates and manifolds, two satellite structures and tooling.

The FPSO agreement covers engineering, procurement and management assistance for the detailed design of the Johan Castberg topside.

Also in December, Aker Solutions received a contract from Sembcorp Marine, which is in charge of the construction of the hull and integrated living quarters for the Johan Castberg FPSO, to design the living quarters for the development’s FPSO.

In addition, Aker Solutions was in February 2018 subcontracted by Kvaerner to deliver the topside modules. Aker Solutions’ yard in Egersund will deliver the modules for water and chemical injection, while the company’s facility in Sandnessjøen will deliver smaller modules and the flare boom.
