Oil major Shell has received consent from the offshore safety body, the Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA), for the start-up and operation of the gas lift system on the Knarr field.
The PSA said on Tuesday that the consent was awarded to Shell’s Norwegian subsidiary AS Norske Shell.
According to the offshore safety watchdog, the system is expected to be put into use in August 2019.
Knarr is a field in the northern part of the North Sea, 50 kilometers northeast of the Snorre field. It was discovered in 2008, and the plan for development and operation was approved in 2011.
The development comprises a floating production, storage and offloading vessel (FPSO) and two subsea templates, including six wells for production and injection.
The field consists of two segments, Knarr West and Knarr Central with one template on each structure. It started producing oil in 2015 under the operatorship of BG, which was subsequently bought by Shell.
It is worth reminding that Shell hired the Dolphin Drilling semi-submersible drilling rig earlier this month for work on the Knarr field in Norway.
The oil company would charter the Borgland Dolphin drilling rig between February and May 2020. The contract includes drilling of one well at the Knarr field and two one well options. The contract value is $15 million, including mobilization cost.
