U.S. LNG export project developer Venture Global LNG said its Calcasieu LNG project sustained minimal impacts from Hurricane Laura.
The company noted that the hurricane made landfall in Louisiana early in the morning of Thursday, August 27, and passed directly over the project site.
A walk-through inspection of most areas of the site following the storm confirmed that the project site’s robust storm protection system, including a perimeter wall and storm water pumping system, performed as designed, the company said in its statement.
Most importantly, all employees and contractor personnel are safe and accounted for.
Venture Global is working with its EPC contractor, Kiewit Louisiana, to promptly and safely regain access to the project site and supporting facilities, restore utilities to Cameron and the project site, and incrementally support the return to work of craft and Venture Global personnel.
To remind, the Calcasieu Pass LNG facility located at the intersection of the Calcasieu Ship Channel and the Gulf of Mexico will have a capacity of 10 mtpa of LNG, once fully operational.
Venture Global LNG is developing two additional 20 mtpa LNG projects, the Plaquemines LNG facility south of New Orleans on the Mississippi River and the Delta LNG project, adjacent to Plaquemines.
Plaquemines LNG facility is expected to start construction this year.
