OHT vessel Hawk with the final ten jackets in the Port of Nigg

The last jacket foundation produced for the Moray East offshore wind farm at Lamprell’s yard in Hamriyah has now been unloaded from OHT’s Hawk heavy transportation vessel in the Port of Nigg.

The vessel arrived at the Port of Nigg on 12 November with the last batch of ten jackets, completing its second trip to and from the UAE within the transportation campaign for the Moray East project.

During the eight-month campaign, OHT used its Hawk, Osprey and Albatross vessels to transport a total of 48 three-legged jacket foundations from Lamprell’s yard to the UK, under a contract with DEME Offshore, the project’s balance of plant EPCI contractor.

The last batch was loaded onto the vessel in the UAE in the second half of September, marking the completion of Lamprell’s part of the project.

The UAE-based manufacturer delivered 45 jacket foundations for Moray East’s wind turbines and three for its offshore transformer modules (OTMs), with the structures averaging more than 1,000 tonnes and up to 80 metres in height.

“The jacket foundations are amongst the largest in deployment for offshore wind turbines. We are immensely proud to have played a key role in delivering such a critical component for this remarkable offshore wind project. “, said Egil Ismar , OHT’s Project Manager.

The remaining 55 jacket for the 100-turbine project have been produced by Smulders.

Foundation installation works are well underway at the site located 22 kilometres from the coast in the Outer Moray Firth zone, with 28 jackets left to be installed , according to the project’s latest Notice of Operations.

The 950 MW offshore wind farm, which will comprise 100 MHI Vestas 9.5 MW turbines, is expected to be fully operational in 2022.
