Hudong–Zhonghua Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation, hosted a groundbreaking ceremony for the second phase of the China Shipbuilding Changxing Shipbuilding Base.

The Hudong-Zhonghua new factory site is located along the south coast of Shanghai Changxing Island, with an overall construction area of ​​431.8 hectares and a planned investment of 18 billion yuan ($ 2.8 billion).

The facility will integrate R&D and design facilities, construction and outfitting facilities, with a planned construction capacity for six ships.

The construction area in the first phase is 214. 6 hectares with a planned investment of 8 billion yuan.

It is planned to be completed by the end of 2023.

The second phase of the Changxing Shipbuilding Base project will define the future of Hudong Zhonghua’s development. Hudong Zhonghua plans to use the facility to upgrade its production by using smart design, automated manufacturing, big data management, robot welding, and the Internet of Things to create smart production lines, control, and management.

The company wants to create a shipbuilding enterprise of high-efficiency, resulting in energy-saving manufacturing processes and environmental protection by utilization of digital technologies.
