Sonatrach closes Skikda LNG

Algerian state energy company Sonatrach has closed its Skikda LNG facility after a technical issue had transpired.

The state-owned company said that a technical issue occurred on 11 June at the Skikda LNG facility, which led to its shutdown.

The reported cause is a sudden failure of a gas turbine control mechanism.

Sonatrach will conduct a thorough inspection in order to carry out the necessary repairs.

The LNG plant at Skikda has a capacity of four metric tonnes per year of LNG.

Sonatrach operates four LNG production facilities in Algeria, three at Arzew and one at Skikda, with a total capacity of 24.7 million metric tonnes per year, according to Platts.
