Nakilat takes delivery of Global Sealine LNGC

Qatari LNG shipping operator Nakilat has taken delivery of a newbuild LNG carrier Global Sealine that will be managed in-house by Nakilat Shipping Qatar.

South Korean shipyard Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering built the new LNG carrier. DSME will deliver it to Global Shipping, a joint venture between Nakilat (60 per cent) and Maran Ventures (40 per cent).

In addition, three of the sister vessels came about between 2020-2021 and are all under time charters. The first two LNGCs Global Energy and Global Star were delivered in May 2020 and January 2021. The third one, Global Sea Spirit, was delivered in October.

Global Sealine has a cargo capacity of 174,000 cubic meters. It is the second vessel with X-DF propulsion system to join the Nakilat fleet. Vessels running with X-DF engines propulsion are said to be more fuel-efficient, reduce greenhouse emissions, and are environmentally friendly due to their low-carbon emission.

Furthermore, the vessel is chartered to Cheniere Marketing International.

Nakilat’s CEO Abdullah Al Sulaiti said: “Nakilat is committed to its environmental goals and supporting the IMO carbon intensity reduction targets to reduce carbon emissions by 2030. The addition of this vessel to our fleet allows the company to offer greater operational flexibility to our charterers as the X-DF engine propulsion is proven to be more fuel-efficient and more environmentally friendly due to the lower carbon emissions.

Moreover, the vessel features significantly lower gas boil-off rate, is equipped with onboard reliquefication units, and complies with all mandatory international and national regulations pertaining to environmental protection.”

The delivery of this vessel brings Nakilat’s to 74 ships. This is about 12 per cent of the current global LNG fleet based on carrying capacity.

To date, NSQL manages and operates 25 LNG carriers, four LPG carrier and one Floating Storage Regasification Unit (FSRU) vessel.
