Coral Sul FLNG ; Saipem scores $150M maintenance contract for Mozambique's Coral Sul FLNG

Italian offshore contractor Saipem has been awarded a $150 million maintenance contract for Eni’s Coral Sul FLNG offshore Mozambique.

The Arear 4 Partners incorporated Coral FLNG for liquefied natural gas production offshore Mozambique . The partners include Eni as the operator, in addition to ExxonMobil, CNPC, GALP, KOGAS, and ENH.

On 6 April, Saipem informed in a statement it won a contract for maintenance services of the floating facility Coral Sul FLNG (floating LNG).

The contract is worth approximately $150 million. Its duration is around nine years. Also, there is an option for one additional year. The activities cover maintenance of the entire FLNG facility and onboard supervision as well as the creation of an onshore logistical base.

Coral Sul FLNG is a sustainable liquefied natural gas floating facility that produces LNG from the Rovuma Basin. It is the first FLNG facility operating in ultra-deep waters, connected to an underwater system at a depth of around 2,000 metres. Its capacity is 3.4 million tonnes of LNG per year.

The production will start later in 2022, and it will contribute to increasing gas availability in the country.

To remind, Coral South Project achieved Final Investment Decision in 2017. Samsung Heavy Industries was responsible for the entire vessel construction process; from hull design to commissioning, as well as topside production design and manufacturing.

Finally, the Institute of National Petroleum of Mozambique (INP) informed of the arrival of the vessel in the Rovuma Basin on 3 January 2022.

Saipem has also recently bagged several contracts in offshore drilling in the Middle East and in West Africa. The total amount of these contracts is over $400 million.
