Korean shipyard Hyundai Heavy Industries has ordered tank designs of six LNG-fueled container vessels from French LNG containment specialist GTT.

GTT informed in a statement that it received this order to design the cryogenic fuel tanks in April 2022.

The six vessels will have a capacity of 7,900 containers each. They will have LNG tanks, holding up to 6,000 cbm of LNG used as fuel. The tanks will feature the GTT’s Mark III Flex membrane containment technology.

GTT reminds that LNG reduces sulphur oxide emissions by 99 per cent, fine particles by 91 per cent and nitrous oxide emissions by 92 per cent. It also reduces ship emissions of CO2 by up to 20 per cent compared to a conventional ship.

Hyundai Heavy will deliver the vessels between the fourth quarter of 2024 and the second quarter of 2025.
