BW Batangas, a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) that will be deployed at First Gen Corporation’s LNG import terminal in the Philippines, has arrived in Batangas.
According to First Gen’s social media update, the FSRU arrived in Batangas Bay on 16 June. Prior to this, BW Batangas underwent modifications at MMHE Shipyard in Johor, Malaysia, to serve the Batangas LNG terminal where it will be chartered for up to ten years.
To remind, First Gen’s wholly-owned subsidiary FGEN LNG entered into a charter agreement with gas shipping company BW Group for BW Batangas FSRU in April 2021 as part of its Interim Offshore LNG Terminal Project.
The FSRU, which was previously named BW Paris, can store 162,524 cubic metres of LNG and regasify up to 500 million standard cubic feet of gas per day.

Dallas-based engineer Jacobs was contracted as owner’s engineer for the LNG project while Svitzer , a Danish towage provider and Maersk subsidiary, will supply and operate four new heavy-duty tugboats that will manage the arrival and departure of the FSRU and LNG carriers.
The project is expected to play a critical role in opening LNG imports to the Philippines as indigenous sources such as the Malampaya gas field could be depleted by 2027.
