FSRU Wilhelmshaven, a joint venture between Engie and Tree Energy Solution (TES), has contracted Dutch company Van Oord to construct a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) jetty at Wilhelmshaven in Germany.
As part of the contract, Van Oord will be responsible for the procurement and construction of the FSRU jetty which will use monopiles as the foundation to speed up the process. A total of ten monopiles, including scour protection, will be installed.
The foundations are equipped with platforms, catwalks, and furniture. In addition, a trailing suction hopper dredger is being deployed to dredge the berth pocket and turning basin, Van Oord explained.

The jetty is part of the second FSRU-based project in Wilhelmshaven backed by Germany’s LNG Acceleration Law which was passed in May 2022 with an aim to plug the supply gap and strengthen the country’s security of supply.
The project is operated by the state-owned Deutsche Energy Terminal (DET) , a 100% subsidiary of the federal government which entered business operation on January 16, 2023.
DET holds the charter contracts and is responsible for technical and commercial operations of state-rented floating LNG terminals at Wilhelmshaven , Brunsbüttel , Stade , and Lubmin .
Germany’s first floating terminal for importing LNG in Wilhelmshaven was officially commissioned for service on December 17, 2022, after ten-month work.
DET recently selected Fairplay Towage Group as the towage provider for the floating LNG terminals in Brunsbüttel, Stade, and Wilhelmshaven.
